Only Sony, and the director, can say whether the strategy was worth it or not (although I doubt either are willing to be honest in public). What I do know is the (estimated) advertising budget isn't being made back. Each week has seen a 50% drop in ticket sales meaning that somebody has to make the decision to keep it on the same amount of screens, which has already dropped by a third, until the end of August.
