I'm really hoping this is just a temporary direction

I still have the emails from 2010 and reading them now compared to recent ones the difference is crazy. They are OBSESSED with this trans***** shit. Even if the current law isn't about bathrooms, their newsletters are filled to the brim over the past few years with declarations that not allowing body dysmorphic disorder patients to use the incorrect bathroom is the greatest assault on liberty since Hitler stormed through Europe.
Check out their donation page. https://action.aclu.org/donate-aclu?redirect=donate/join-renew-give Their goals are:
Defend voting rights as the presidential election nears Fight relentless attacks on reproductive freedom Reform our racially-biased criminal justice system
Hey, weren't you guys supposed to defend the first amendment? We already have PP and BLM but free speech is under serious assault.
There is no way, no FUCKING way they would ever defend the KKK now, despite the present organization being a shadow of the threat it was in the 60s.
The lawyer who defended the KKK quit over the trans shit. http://lawnewz.com/important/aclu-leader-resigns-in-protest-after-daughters-scared-by-transwomen-in-restroom/ There's some soccer mom histrionics in there, but I can completely see her point about the ACLU having an internal hierarchy of whose rights to defend. Their old LGBT work focused on censorship of LGBT themes but they're now obsessed with fucking bathrooms and cakes.
Is there any progressive organization that hasn't devolved into NPR pledge drive shit? Even MoveOn.org has been co-opted by Sanders supporters and the naval gazings of Robert Reich (for people who think Noam Chompsky is too challenging). They're STILL declaring Bernie a massive success for "forcing the debate left of center". Just more "raising awareness as the be all end all of activism" millennial mush.
I wrote about this a bit in my posts about charities. To quote me:
I'd add that animal charities and the public broadcasting groups I've donated to have also held up to scrutiny. When your charity is focused on a group that can't speak for themselves very well and people generally don't give a shit about (animals, homeless, the mentally ill, environment), you have active opposition (reproductive/gay/gun rights), and you have a very clear goal (public broadcasting), the charity is generally reliable.
I'd add that most of these organizations don't give a fuck about alienating others on their progressive/conservative side if they can further their agenda. I tend to donate most of my charity dollars to animal/environmental charities for that reason. For free speech, www.thefire.org still seems good. It's a bit right-leaning but they've defended Sanders and pro-marijuana legalization supporters within the past 6 months. That Jefferson Center that awards the Muzzles is nonpartisan. For digital privacy, I think the EFF is still reliable. I like the Brookings Institute for general thinktank work. I also read a blog post by someone who donates $10 to PP and ACLU. Not that it really helps their budget, but so they can say they have X number of donating supporters when they're arguing in DC which is why PP still gets a bit of money from me. Oh, and of course Alternehahahaha. No, they actually are a tax-deductible non-profit. If you want to support media outrage, you might as well donate to Media Matters, which does better work.
