Re: I just don't see the great candidate that you do, I guess
The creepiest moment for me during the 2004 election was door-to-door canvassing the day John Edwards was chosen as Kerry's VP. I go to one woman's door and she asks, "and is Kerry's running mate John Edwards?" I smilingly confirm. "Oh I don't know about him, he's a trial lawyer." Go to another door, very similar conversation ending in, "Oh I don't know about him, he's a trial lawyer." Door after door people are expressing the exact same opinion about Edwards as if it were theirs. It was like I'd stumbled into an episode of the Twilight Zone. It wasn't until later that evening that I returned to the office and learned that Rove's leading talking point was that Edwards was a trial lawyer and the reason medical costs are unaffordable is because of those greedy. malpractice trial lawyers. Talking points are the creepiest form of propaganda. All you do is repeat the same statement over and over and over again, and not only do people start to believe you, they begin to think your words are actually their own idea. I'll just leave this here.
