Re: Loving it

Challenge rooms will drive me insane if I don't ignore them. They also need an "instant restart" option in the menu.
I just cleared the last challenge room. It was dumb and I don't recommend it. Even by videogame standards it was a waste of time. I wish I would've spent all that effort learning to play Guitar Hero instead :( It did make me realize, though, that I will never stop feeling wronged when ostensibly 2D games settle for whatever overly complex 3D collision detection their repurposed FPS engine does out of the box. Like, there's this item in the final room that you can only grab by standing right on the very edge of a platform and shooting your bionic arm at a 45 degree angle. Only, half the time it doesn't work! Eventually I discovered the thing to do in that situation is to shoot your arm once then, without touching any other controls, shoot it again at the exact same angle. The second time it's more likely to connect because the animation from the first attempt shifts your little upper body polygon mesh (but not your feet on the platform) just enough so the arm technically originates from a different point in space. This is ridiculous and stupid and kind of cool but also not at all congruent with the sort of pixel-perfect precision an everything is spikes all the time platformer like Bionic Commando turns into around the last set of challenges demands. (Figure out the collision in that sentence why don't you.)
