Re: This was made with a manual at hand in mind.

But for my money, forget Wizardry. The REAL gems of classic WRPG design are the SSI Gold Box games. Combining the first person grid-based dungeon crawling of Wizardry/Might and Magic with the isometric tactical RPG combat that would years later turn Final Fantasy Tactics into a classic. To this day one of the greatest joys of my RPG gaming youth was sending a well-aimed fireball into a packed group of enemies and watching the "Bleh!" skull death animation play out meticulously over, and over, and over again.
Pool of Radiance was totally amazing. I have to admit that I didn't really understand the 1st edition rules of D&D until I played that game, especially re: spells and memorization. Curse of the Azure Bonds was the pinnacle of those games. Murdering the Mullmaster Beholder Corps using Dust of Disappearance (what is this? I wondered) -- top ten gaming moment ever for me. BUT! Secret of the Silver Blades was just a total slog. OMG those ice hallways/highways/whatever. Ridiculous. Pools of Darkness was ok but I couldn't get through their disaster middle game so I didn't have any characters to import! *COMICAL NERD ANGER* Anyway, 10 bucks holy shit. I'll buy this again O_O
