Another hyper-funded video game comes along
[quote name="skip"]https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/playtonic/yooka-laylee-a-3d-platformer-rare-vival Even if it ends right now, it will be in the top 15 of most funded video games. I'm not going to knock on anyone who funded this game because they missed 3D platformer games, especially since all the focus has been on 2D platformers for several years. Kickstarter video games are dominated by nostalgia, whether it be for spaceflight sims (Star Citizen), RPGs (Pillars of Eternity, Divinity), or adventure games (Broken Age, Broken Sword, etc). I wish them well since I wouldn't mind an updated BK myself, but hope they tweak the character designs. They look like Sonic characters. KS wisely broke mobile games, playing cards, and puzzles into their own subcategory so they can now be easily ignored. Board games are still one of the better categories, but most companies are just using it as a preorder system, fucking Indie Boards and Cards, so that bubble may burst when consumers get tired of paying MSRP for something that will be cheaper on Amazon 10 days after it's released. Most of the other sections aren't funded that heavily or are small, realistic projects. At least the technology section is full of ridiculous, espensive projects that will end up as disappointments. A laser and a breathalyzer in your phone case? Does any funder ever wonder how to clean these things? 3D VR glasses.
