It does go downhill spoileeeerz
All that time with Anderson putting together the killer's psych profile? The small clues painstakingly put together like the outline from his daughter's drawing coming out on his note to the victim's father? NONE OF THAT IS USED TO CATCH THE KILLER The only relevant clues they come up with are thanks to ridiculous deus ex machina: - The pathologist, after examining the victim killed by strangulation, remarks, "I have a friend who dated a guy that tried choking during sex in college 10 years ago. You should talk to her." THAT OLD FLAME JUST HAPPENS TO BE THE KILLER THEY'RE LOOKING FOR. - "You know what? We have no idea how to develop this subtle psych profile stuff into something tangible they can use to catch him. That shit's too hard. Just have them find a fingerprint." - The killer, after evading the police on foot, just happens to run into the one man in all of Belfast who's looking for him. The man immediately chases after him to interrogate him about his runaway wife at gunpoint, prompting the police to show up. The man already knew where the killer lived, and had his guy show up previously to threaten him. Why didn't he show up at the killer's house after his wife ran away if he was so eager to find her? Not since Police Quest 4 has there been such a letdown conclusion to a serial killer investigation. The big thing that dragged season 2 down was turning the babysitter into a major character. She suddenly out of nowhere turns into a genius Nancy Drew detective and all of her scenes are painful. Another head scratcher is the whole sub plot about a slain police officer in connection to organized crime (or the IRA?). It's totally disconnected from anything and is dropped before it goes anywhere. Anderson is hot for and actively tries to fuck half the cast.
