Re: The entire run of Crossed

+100 This one had a promising concept, taking place 100 years after the Outbreak where most of the infected have died off and people are rebuilding. There's no way it's not going to be a letdown where overly dumb characters cause another outbreak to kill everyone. But what really sinks it is the language. The nerd writer just couldn't tell the story, he had to play linguist and imagine what English would sound like in 100 years. The result is unreadable. How long do you think you could stand dialog like this for?
Jesus that future language sucks! It's like he wrote contemporary dialog and randomly replaced words with synonyms, but the cadence is still exactly the same. "Ah, sex it." in a world where people still say "fuck." How the hell do you even pronounce "audied" and why would people living a ramshackle survival existence replace the easily pronounced contemporary "Hear" with an awkward contraction of the $5 word "audible?" And why would people use "brown" as an expletive? Words like Fuck have sharp consonant sounds in them that makes them snap. "Cunt" is the worst word for vagina because it starts and ends with sharp consonants. But "brown?" Soft consonants and an "ow" sound you need to shape, it's not something you can spit out like "Shit" and it doesn't have that satisfying feeling of a hiss followed by a snappy T.
