I enjoyed (most of) it
Best tank movie since... Kelly's Heroes? Note, that I am of course a sucker for tank movies. It was at it's best when it was trying to be 300, but with tanks. But you can stop watching once they fight the Tiger - the ending is terrible. The sound really did it for more. .50 cal sounded like a .50 cal. Being inside the tank really sounded like being inside a tank.
I'm no expert on WWII ordnance, but I'm fairly sure that tank shells didn't glow green and blue while bullets were dark red. It looks like a GI Joe cartoon half the time.
Yep, that's pretty much what tracers do look like!
Typist non-combatant new guy. Jesus freak. A dilemma about shooting a German prisoner or not? Struggling over a knife with a German before one is overpowered to be slowly stabbed? The opportunity to withdraw before the final attack but knowing that it would doom other American troops? Telling typist non-combatant guy to go live? All your Saving Private Ryan bits are here, beat for beat! Now with a 5 hour brunch scene! Plus loving, tender rape (it's okay for the pacifist to rape her because one of the rougher soldiers would have anyway!)
Fun fact: the typist cliche goes all the way back to "Hell is for Heroes", and apparently was a very common occurrence towards the end of the war. I'm not going to defend the 5 hour brunch scene, because it went on FOREVER. I think some people missed the point of it though, even as ham-handed as it was - the other crewmen were broken and could no longer function in normal society. (So naturally they have to die at the end of the movie)
Did you know that war is hell and that it's dirty and muddy with muddy dirt everywhere
Ha, it was actually bothering me because they weren't dirty ENOUGH. Every time there was a closeup and you could see Brad Pitt's spotless leather gloves it drove me crazy. You can't touch a tank and not be covered in mud and grease.
Shia LaBeouf
Yeah :( Anyway, recommended especially for the scene where they are assaulting through the town. But stop watching after the Tiger fight.
