Re: Hey, Roop, what do you think of the latest tempest about jazz?
See I only watched the HBO drama Tremè which led me to watch Ken Burn's Jazz on the Roku because Ken Burns helps me fall asleep. All that did was give me context for what I am hearing when I play a recording of some long dead person. I'm sure I know less about Jazz than you do about Opera, but I once dated an Opera singer who explained some of it to me, and dragged me to shit. To people making Operas, they aren't highbrow. I've even had a few friends who are classical musicians. This is from going to a big music school I think. Anyway, normal almost working class guy, played the French Horn. Playing for years, loving his job, blew out his lips. Didn't even know that was a thing. So, luckily had his gig in South Africa, and they actually have a few good laws in that hellhole, and now he gets disability, keeping his old income, just for having liver lips. So what is really going on? Is it Live Nation being a greedy monopoly again? I honestly don't know any modern Jazz people I would pay to see, still trying to catch up listening to dead guys. Well, there's this local place that hosts a live Jazz Quartet, and I'm pretty sure not one of those squinting chinbeards gives a flying fuck what the media or general public thinks about Jazz Music. So, in closing, I don't know shit. Here's how little I know. As a little kid I heard this all the time, because it was the themesong for the Movie for a Sunday Afternoon, so I'd turn it up that shit and wish it was real music. Took me this long to figure out it is indeed a full song.
