Bob of Bob's Game went insane, got $10,000 anyway
Bob's Game still exists somehow. Apparently this is a few months old. Unamazingly, he has released nothing significant since being funded and has even failed to mail out physical rewards on time, even though they were just signed business cards, which he supposedly already has in hand, and only eleven people even pledged for them. The meat of Bob's proposal is that he is still dragging around his enormous, as-yet unreleasable, one-man RPG project, and that he is homeless and probably schizophrenic, and that he needs some money to cobble together a solar-powered van so he can continue torturing himself with his own overambitious schemes indefinitely into the future. He does not actually show any awareness that he might be mentally ill, but instead provides evidence that he is in the form of a lengthy autobiography (posted on his own website) in which he... well, try to read it, if you're into this sort of thing. It starts as the sad story of an imaginative boy growing up an outsider in Detroit, and increasingly becomes a paranoid/new-agey metaphysical manifesto. Even if he's faking some of it--this dude has problems. The amazing thing is that in spite of being refreshingly up-front about how big a screwup he is and has always been, how very close he is to committing suicide (regardless of whether the Kickstarter money came in), and how strongly he has focused his energy onto rambling grandiose crap about Jesus into a text editor, he actually got $5000 from ordinary Kickstarter users somehow. (The remaining $5000 appears to have come from a last-minute surprise donor.) It might be nice to quote the autobiography here for posterity, but it's like five times too long to fit into a Caltrops post. :(
