Re: Maybe I'm missing context because I barely play shooters?

As far as licensed stories, I dunno. I guess they could have just rewrote The Darkness so Jenny doesn't die? I honestly don't get the complaint when it's organized crime stories, do people want the Mob represented as less misogynistic or less mafia themed games?
In The Darkness: The Comic Book, it was Batman who convinced Jackie to turn on his Uncle Frankie* and go straight. If The Darkness: The Mature Video Game felt like it needed to give me a motivation to kill the bad guys besides filling them with blood and mapping both triggers to "violently remove blood" and none of the other inputs to anything, I think I would've enjoyed a simple "They're using you, chum! Let's get 'em!" from the caped crusader way more than watching my helpless pretend girlfriend get brutally murdered from behind an indestructible video game window. Then in the epilogue Jackie and Jenny and Batman could've all gone back to Jenny's apartment and made some popcorn and watched The Guns of Navarone on the late show. Jackie could've given some big speech about how great it was to have real friends and be a good guy now and the camera could pull back to show both Jenny and Batman had already fallen asleep on his shoulders and he could look into the camera all exasperated like "Life! What are you gonna do?" I mean, that would be pretty dumb too I guess, but at least it's not something I've ever seen in a game before - least of all the last four fucking M-rated games I played. *Yeah Frankie, not Paulie. Paulie was a different character taken from a later storyline and merged with Frankie in order to produce a plot that wasn't going to confuse or upset real gamers, who apparently only want to hear the same simple story of boy meets girl, girl explodes, boy explodes other boys over and over again until they either grow out of it or die with a Razer Boomslang in one hand and a bag of Doritos in the other.
