Re: I would enjoy being on a podcast!

-I studied basic for a semester in high school.
10 ?”FAGNT” 20 GOTO 10 hrewhrwehwerhwer
I don't feel like knowing how to program and knowing about design go hand in hand, so I'd rather focus on design while more and more capable game makers come out. One of the dudes from my graduating class made this based on his masters thesis (something to do with ethnic conflict). It's an interesting game - a five minute dialogue simulator with multiple endings! Everything programmed by him from the ground up! But why does he use an isometric view with WASD movement? Why waste so much time with spriting when a point and click format would not only be easier, but would make the idea of finding clues an actual gameplay challenge instead of "walk around until you see a ?'? Why commit to a early 1900's art style, but make that one chick a sexy secretary in a mini-skirt? I'm pretty sure the answer to most of those is that he's Polish, but that's besides the point.
I love that Polish people just don’t give a fuck. That role in the world should be played by the Russians, but they hate gay people so they’re out. My hope is that your average Pole is a man’s man, but is totally okay with a different man enjoying men. I think the Cyberpunk 2077 people are Polish, right? I looooove that they didn’t engage with all idiots that complained about their trailer having a pretty girl in it. OK, in this thread we are all now Polish.
I guess I'm trying to say that I don't see any inherit advantage to learning how to code besides a warm inner feeling of "I did that"! People don't really care HOW you made a game, they only care about the game itself. If my greatest goal is to make something worthy of Shut Up and Jam Gaiden, then I'd rather focus on writing and finding artists.
I hear you. Steam says that I’ve spent 200 hours with RPG Maker, but that’s because I leave it up when I go to bed, and all I am doing is making sprites. But getting stuff on the screen has been so easy. I have Kirk, Spock and Scotty running around a tiled, erm, beach.* The beach is the default tile, of course, it’s not “that” kind of game. :( I’d enjoy making a Java engine because that would make me a better programmer for work. There is a certain pleasure in going from nothing (or some libraries) into a game with dudes moving around the screen, but there is also the problem of time management. I have maybe a couple hours a night to get banned from imgur for trolling and to work on games. RPG Maker cutting off a year and a half of engine development makes sense. *I normally believe that working with someone else’s IP is pretty weak, but Roddenberry is dead and anything I do will be a better story than what Abrams approved and ran with, so I’m gonna try it. Plus, there hasn’t been an original series game since Judgment Rites in 1991. (I think? I just want to move little dudes around the screen.) Regarding a podcast - OK, we’re not doing one next week because Don is out of town, and the week after is a guest-less thing about retooling the show. After that I will be in New York so we may or may not have a s— let me put it this way, we definitely want to do interviews with people making games and you’ll be the next guy we contact. I can’t believe how uninterested game developers are in promoting their wares, but they are probably real busy and get requests all the time. I’d donate two pints of blood to the homeless to get onto a podcast somewhere and talk about Cyberganked, but I guess I’m also coming from a different place, as far as exposure goes. the dark and gritty…Ice Cream Jonsey!
