Re: "Do we really need to learn to code?"

I think it was in 2005 that I saw a demo of some software that was supposed to let you code using flowcharts. My fear is that, having seen a few go-nowhere and clumsy attempts at coding without coding, that I'd be against any such thing ever working in the future. What do you think?
there's plenty of coding that gets done with that kind of app, it's not new. iirc the embedded code that runs iron injectors during the cpu manufacturing process was c# templates arranged as a series of state machines in visio. tibco's primary product has one and the last consultant I worked with for it bragged he "hadn't looked at code in 3 years." I think it's fine but you develop a skill that isn't portable, like I'd rather be a shitty coder but able to read java than an ace with a fucking graphing tool. this guy Bret Victor did a talk about a good way to make visual development work without losing sight of the code, and epic actually demo'd a version of this as part of unreal 4: I know it's an hour but it's really good. tech video wise it's up there with "fuck you pay me" or talks from the guy who made clojure
