This game is just all around easier
In the first two games the environment and enemy placement felt meticulously designed. You couldn't blindly rush into areas because you'd accidentally aggro more enemies than you could handle, or there'd be sniper enemies that would peg you while you were trying to fight, and the environments were tense because you could easily go over a cliff or get yourself boxed in if you weren't paying attention. You had to manage yourself and your fights in a way that I just haven't had to in this game. The first 2 games were always putting you under a lot of pressure to screw up, but I haven't felt that here. There's almost always a ton of room to fight, and other than the odd horde here or there, I'm never in any danger of fighting more than I can handle. On top of that, most of the enemies seem to do dick for damage. I've been playing a swordfighter and have almost never used a shield, and I've had enemies combo me like 5 times in a row and still wind up with a third of my health left. The enemy AI doesn't seem as tricky either. Enemies could launch into a 3-4 hit combo, but depending on how you reacted they could change their attack pattern mid-attack and catch you off guard, but here they just seem to follow the same routine over and over and over. Even the bosses are a huge letdown. I wrote off the first few as trainers, but the further I get they're just as underwhelming. Bosses used to have a variety of attacks to keep you on your toes, but they feel so simplified now. I actually liked the majority of bosses in the first 2 games and never felt like I had to cheat them to win (until I looked them up on a wiki on my 3rd playthrough and saw all the strategies), but the only boss I've really liked so far is the chariot boss and even then only the first half. The first half took me back to feeling under pressure again, but the second half was a cakewalk.
