You can change the jump button in the options
I HATED the clicking the left stick, because there's about a 1,000% chance I'd accidentally move the stick while trying to jump. But you can change it back to the same button it was in past games. A+ would do business with again. I don't mind the health penalty, but I haven't gotten barely anywhere in the game yet. I'm hoping it will hold up as a nice challenge instead of making the game worse. I think they're just trying to refine there being any real penalty for dying (well, beyond having to run through part of the level again). Losing your souls was never really much of a penalty. I think the durability of your weapon is also affected by the enemies you attack and maybe related to stats? I tried taking on one of those giant trolls in the very beginning after I created my character, and my sword's durability went to shit very, very quickly. I was screwing around then, so I started a new character and have gotten a little ways into the giants' forest and haven't had durability issues yet. I wouldn't say the graphics in Dark Souls 2 are entirely worse overall. There's more detail and better textures, it's just the lighting that's off. There's a cave you walk through on the way to the forest that looks really nice and is well lit, but then you walk outside and am I playing Nightmare Creatures what happened? It's like there's no world lighting, just light in specific places in specific rooms. It's bizarre. The few enemies I've encountered are way, way more aggressive than past games. I was surprised at how relentlessly the starter grunts chased me down. They also seemed to have changed the timing on dodging and parrying, and I'm not sure if dodging is still 100% avoidance. I got my ass handed to me by one of the giant trolls because I either couldn't get the timing of my dodges right or because they have more opportunity to hit you or remove partial health.
