Worm was saying that, Tdarcos was saying that
And now I'm saying that, and no, nigga definitely didn't exist. One big indicator is this: crazy mythical attributes accumulated around Alexander and Julius Caesar too, but those guys interacted with other historical people in a way that has been transmitted to us. The historical figures Jesus supposedly interacted with -- Herod, Pontius Pilate -- are real guys that we have some knowledge of. And they didn't do anything like what the Gospels and Acts say they did. Herod never killed all the male offspring of a town (which anyway is very clearly a reference to the exact same action by Pharaoh in the story of Moses), and Pilate never had any program of letting criminals go free. All of these interactions are clearly retellings of other scriptural tales and/or allegory. When you strip away the midrash and the mythical parts, there's absolutely nothing left. Another big indicator is that Paul, who is just about the earliest christian writer that has come down to us, has never heard of any guy named "Jesus of Nazareth". And the religion in his epistles actually excludes the possibility of a recent human figure. There are lots of other considerations, but it all amounts to this: the guy is invented from top to bottom. Invented by "Mark" and so if you want to call him the most influential man in history, nobody's stopping you.
