Deus Ex is running up the score!
My first reaction was to take BioShock first, and now I find myself trying to defend that thought. I went from not knowing about BioShock to pre-purchasing a 50 or 60 dollar game based on the hype. God, the architecture. Does anyone else agree that the architecture is better in BioShock? I feel that... and someone kick me in the dick if I am wrong....... I feel that BioShock's two awful sequels sort of detract from the original. It never occurred to me that different studios could grab and make bad sequels to games until BioShock 2. It happened with Terror From the Deep so I should have learned my lesson, but X-COM was different. Here is an X-COM story. I started working at an Electronics Boutique in 1995. I had gotten kicked out of Syracuse and had to go to community college in Rochester, so I was back living at home. My dad made me get a job while going to community college. I say "made," but it was the right thing to do. I thought to myself, "Well, I know about video games! I'll go work at Electronics Boutique! PSH!" The interview was filled with questions about the Playstation and Saturn. I had never heard of either. Somehow, I got the job. Maybe I ran up the score on PC shit. Maybe they felt I had reliable transportation. Regardless, I was around PC gamers that got me into Civ 2 and X-COM. (The job was awful enough that I got into QA at Xerox, then development at Cyrix and AMD and then QA automation where I am now. The fact that I got a real career is 100% due to the fact that my dad yelled at me and the fact that customers at the EB at Marketplace Mall in Rochester, NY were 100% universal cunts. What a bunch of assholes.) Anyway. I think the combat was better in BioShock but what I am learning is that I was just amazed at the use of the other mouse button in combat. Maybe games like CoD and GoW used it. I had never seen it before. TWO attacks??! To me, BioShock was the first game to offer two attacks with each mouse button. I am sure they are not the first to do that. Deus Ex: HR depicted offices really well. Now I am just nitpicking the stuff BioShock did because I feel bad for it. I feel this is like when Patrice got his opinion changed on Face/Off. ICJ
