Mischief Maker's Maker's Mark

Nah, I think it's simpler than that.
In western games from Mechwarrior 2 to the riot suit portions of Chronicles of Riddick, playing a giant robot is like a superior version of those "man the turret and defend this area" parts of FPSes. The challenge from western giant robot games involves dishing out punishment expertly enough so the enemy barely gets a chance to shoot back at your slow and lumbering bulk. 99% of Eastern giant robot games have some kind of sudden course change dash mechanic. Sometimes you're a flying ballerina like Zone of the Enders 2, sometimes the game makes concessions to the massive weight of these robots by having a significant recovery delay between dashes. The challenge in eastern giant robot games involves nimbly dodging attacks and catching enemy robots during the brief immobility window after a they dash. SS0 has eastern aesthetics but western gameplay. You may be shooting anime drunken missiles, but the strike suit is very much a barely-mobile turret whose advantage over fighter crafts is its ability to dish out massive damage quickly. I think I saw a screenshot where the strike suit had a lazer sword, but given how the final product handles, such a weapon would be absurd.
