If that's really how you feel, I'll just take a minute here to tell you to buck

I have no business reviewing or even discussing 4x games. I'm a fucking embarrassment! Sorry. :(
Man I don't know if you're just making fun of my NERD RANT (which deserves a lot of baiting, I admit this) or not but it was never my intention to bring people here down. I know this is CALTROPS and on CALTROPS we're supposed to shout at each other to grow a spine already but I'm not really looking to make everyone else feel shat on. I felt the effort to cover 4x games on a dedicated site was a useful one simply because I didn't know that much about the new crop coming out and wanted someone to tell me at least the basics. The critical appraisal is the second step, first you have to know it exists and nobody needs a shark tank for that part so much as a wide net. For what it's worth, I'm also genuinely glad you told me Pandora existed. I've got one more game to tinker with if I want to try to add in the missing features myself. Man, check out my self-satisfied opinion, right? I'm never gonna learn to be less self-righteous I guess. Christ.
You have spent more time with the game, and are obviously more knowledgeable about and capable of writing critically about the subject. Also you have written said criticism terribly well, and I never complement anybody here.
My review is barely coherent and kind of a clusterfuck to read, man. At least yours is short. Thing is? The input from a less timewasting kinda gamer like you that isn't dripping with pat Gamer Dad nonsense is useful in understanding the appeal of games to people like you who have houses and jobs. I would keep writing if I were you, though I dunno about doing it on Caltrops because I halfway expect someone's going to yell THIS IS CALTROPS and kick me into a pit any moment and that 'scrutiny to the point of explicit threat' edge doesn't work for everybody.
I have no excuse for liking the game, I realize now. I guess I just like the whole clicking on things and one-more-turn thing. I've never been good at 4x games, and I rarely finish them. I like the first half, and I'll play the first half a handful of times and move on to the next thing.
You might enjoy grabbing a copy of King of Dragon Pass, it runs on PC and smartphone these days. If you can get past the whimsical exterior you'll find a game that has 4x elements masquerading as totally different stuff, even if it's ultimately a bit more of a strat with story. Tell me if it's palatable, because I'm in need of the opinion of someone with a busier life than mine on whether it's half as slick as I think and worth the bother either way. That game gives me 'just one more turn' shakes like a heroin addict, man. If it didn't have a save feature I mighta starved to death for a while there (okay not really I'm too annoyed by the thought of living in a pigsty to catass). If you're a lot like me it might sour you on 4xes for a little while though, fair warning.
