It was a well-executed retread of every cyberpunk game ever. Still a good thing
I can appreciate that it was well done, but 'emerging technology will eat society' is the only sci-fi theme in games to overshadow 'emerging technology will create a utopia we must fight for' in an unbroken line of mild variations from here to, what, at least the first game inspired by a Gibson book? And the message isn't particularly apt when we're all sitting in front of chunks of prosthetic brain wired together into one big prosthetic brain network, complete with memory of dead men singing pop songs and whatever else, living measurably better lives even though Google Glass is terrifying or whatever. In principle I'd still play HR, just not for the plot on either of the two levels fabio describes. I'd rather endlessly replay that Alpha Protocol scene where you kill a Mafia boss in a disco shithole while Turn Up The Radio plays in the background than have to deal with pop-sci cybernetics and the ethics thereof with anything short of a Turing-complete entity.
