Nice job, MM. Noteworthy that all the screenshots look like comics & anime?
I know nothing of brawlers and admit my ignorance here freely. Hopefully it didn't look like I claimed to know what the fuck I was talking about in terms of mechanics in that other post, live and learn I guess. When you dismissed the one game that didn't look much like the others, was it because the Cartoon Network look is also common? It was rare to me, maybe it's common enough not to be at all noteworthy. Thought I actually saw something relevant for a second there =( If it IS rare, it seems worthwhile despite its mechanics. Hammerfight won me over in large part thanks to its look and its tone, the feel was fucking annoying sometimes but weird ritual combat between greasy arabs giving each other concussions and worse worked for me. I figured that, the physics, and the mouse-only novelty were why you had fun playing. Here's where I figure you either didn't care because it was irrelevant to the game's level of fun by that point or didn't notice because it was irrelevant to your interests: the Castle Crashers poster advertised not a game but a team of luchadores, as did the Mario Brothers poster and all the other shit except the ones that tried to reinvent meme jokes. There was a thematic element that was this nerd chic vintage bullshit that was made to appeal to the intersection between twentysomething internet curmudgeons on remix culture sites and a slightly younger bunch of internet hipsters on social media sites, both of which have a good likelihood of having spanish as a second language - this seems like a vaguely interesting move by an indie developer to me, either because someone thinks those kids are potentially gonna be steering design decisions or because these developers are those kids now. Or maybe it seems like a stupid move, but when it comes to whose tastes drive design decisions I'll take this bunch over a glut of otakus any day of the week. Is there a reason not to? I guess if you're playing it, it's made for you - which made your praising a western-made game's mechanics gratifying (who isn't tired of weeb aesthetics? Worm, probably.) but rendered dismissing another western made game's aesthetics kinda odd.
