You know what, Engine Heart's kickstarter is interesting compared to all this.
So what, is this a benchmark of what webcomic creatives should do compared to what they manage to rake in when they're as dimwitted and popular as Penny Arcade? Is five figures an acceptable standard, does it show humility, by virtue of being less demanding? Or is it way the fuck too much> I know this guy isn't asking for that insane an amount RELATIVE to PA and maybe your example, and he already has a ready product he's distributing to retailers with the raised capital. He asked for cash to print a bunch of books and send them to stores to stock, and if they made a sale the store kept a large portion of the profit; he is asking people to subsidize game stores who don't really lose anything out of the deal and slightly improve his visibility and people gave him a good five figures to do it. He gets money only after taking time out of his working schedule to turn his hobby into labor for a while, from which he will likely see no direct profit even if it's a commercial success for the sellers save visibility. And certain;y it's not his first game. That's almost shocking to me after seeing this thread.
