[/quote] There isn't any bias against developers over 40. Or 50 or 60. Mostly because there is a better chance they can <i>actually do the job.</i> There are startup-style companies trying to keep wages down and sure, they are better served by hiring 5 20 year olds and hoping they strike gold with one. But when companies transition into a more mature state, you need people who can get their work done. The ideal candidate where I am now, for our Java division, would be between 35 and 65 with 10 years of experience in the language. There is less worry that the candidate is going to show up hungover 2 days out of 5. But the big thing is that this fantasy candidate <i>knows his or her shit</i>. I can't tell you how valuable programmers are that actually understand everything they need to know are. Let's talk about some of the things you do bring to the table, Commander: 1) When given a specific set of instructions and goals, you are able to focus and complete those tasks in a timely manner. 2) When it comes to programming, you have no ego. (This is an admirable trait.) 3) You work well in a team.
