Just be glad you can't; libeling the dead is a crime

Saying someone had a loathsome disease constitutes libel. So someone who likes Steve Jobs goes looking for you and then has you charged. You had better be able to prove he had AIDS or you're in trouble, if they want to go that far. One guy said some unflattering - and untrue - things about George Washington in the state that bears his name. A prosecutor there tracked down the guy and went after him. He did get jail time for it. It's considered really unfair to libel dead people because they can't respond when you say untrue things that are bad about them that unjustly ruin their reputation. Yeah, you can almost certainly get away with it, but some people find out the hard way that someone else didn't like them lying about something they liked and <i>really</i> took umbrage at what they said.
