Re: Breaking news: The Sun rose this morning! Film at 8, 9, 10, 2, 5, and 11!

Anyone have a different take on this whole idea on how the media doesn't cover non-visual news events or on other issues about lack of coverage or the crappy way they cover news?
You've uncovered an incredible conspiracy. TV news cannot cover everything, so they stick to things they can't ignore or the things they have video for. I agree it's a problem, because the habit of pretending a story doesn't exist if there's no video for it, or repeat the same slim volume of details over and over because they don't have the time for complexity, doesn't seem to detract from the perceived authority of TV news. (The standard story length is 25 seconds.) But news programs see themselves as being mostly delivery mechanisms, they don't analyze or consider very much. Until recently they could refer you to newspapers for more details or creative visualization. Your mind would be blown if you knew how much local news is CTRL-C/CTRL-Vd from CNN. All national stories and, depending on whether it's a slow news day, most of the packages. Stations pay for the right to use those stories without having to tell you where they got it from. I write part-time for a local station and those CNN stories are such a dirty luxury, so easy to get out of the way and if the facts are wrong you can point the finger.
