Peter Molyneux's The Movies

Um... you are completely misinterpreting me. TNG was great.
I was using The Next Generation as an example of how the Trek franchise was revived when many at the time would have been justified at rolling their eyes and saying the new show was beating a dead horse, thanks to (mostly) good writing (from 2nd season onward). There's no reason a new movie-only series with new characters couldn't repeat that miracle provided the writing is good. Dumping the franchise (and every sequel it seems) in the hands of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, a pair whose "best" screenplay was the Antonio Banderas Zorro movie, is not the recipe for that magic. I never thought I'd say this, but I'd be happier if they put the Trek franchise in the hands of Joe Eszterhas. At least then they'd at least crash and burn in spectacularly awful fashion instead of Orci and Kurtzman's bland corporate paint-by-the-numbers approach.
