Fair enough.

Wellllll that's just it. It's not a mechanic to me, it'd be like making the remapping of keys a mechanic or not being able to adjust volume while on a mission. :(
I don't think I've ever played a game with a save system where I didn't somehow incorporate it into my strategy. It seems the most natural thing in the world to me to say, "I'm about to try something risky, I'll just save my game first in case it doesn't go according to plan". I guess maybe that's because I like games a little too much, and tend to approach every aspect of them with a "gamer" mentality. I would probably be able to enjoy a much broader spectrum of games if I didn't get so hung up on trying to win them. Here's how much I suffer from the "gamer's curse": if it were possible to significantly advantage or disadvantage myself in a particular game by remapping the controls (for example, as by mapping the execution of a Spinning Piledriver to a single button press instead of a complex joystick motion), I would probably expect the designers to put a little more thought into how those mechanics interact, too (as by making the Spinning Piledriver a one-button move to begin with, say, and balancing every other move accordingly).
