I think they're making this all up.[/quote] Here's the current METAGAME right now: The basic idea is that you have 5 players but only 4 sources of income (the 3 lanes and jungling (having a character fight nothing but neutral monsters in the woods)) so you split up the following: Bottom lane- An ADC or Attack Damage Carry, a hero who's going to do all their damage through auto attacks. Starts off weak but turns into a dps monster later who will carry your team. Because they start off weak, you stick a support character to babysit them. Because it's better to have one character with 5,000 gold than two characters with 2,500 gold, the support lets the carry get all the minion gold. Most supports get by with minimal items anyway. Top lane- Bruisers or "tanky dps" are beefy character who can still do damage: Garen, Darius, Nasus, etc. You want to last in lane but still be able to kill the other guy if possible. They also usually have some form of health regeneration because leaving a solo lane to base is much worse than a dual lane. The reason the top lane is chosen for solo and not the bottom is better control of the dragon. Middle lane- An AP damage character with tons of burst damage so they can gank the other two lanes when they get the chance. In totally competitive games it's the most efficient method right now, but again every amateur player treats it like obsessing over what shoe LeBron James wears to be a great basketball player rather than the hundred other more basic things they need to worry about.
