Alien vs. Predator 3
::
The Alien (and Predator) franchise is dead.
The only thing they're good for now is to make money. They don't actually generate enjoyable products anymore. The Alien franchise is dead because it is de-mystified. The aliens were scary because they were, well, alien. Have you seen the Alien director's cut, where you see more shots of the creature? It completely dispels the horror of the unknown. The Aliens sequel was scary because it was brilliantly tailored to fuck your nerves harder and harder and harder leading up to a mindblowing multiple climax that would leave delicious scars in your mind forever. Alien 3 wasn't really that scary, but very dramatic and added some cool new tidbits to the alien canon. It was also an impressive example of a mess of a film that (barely) got saved in the cutting room. See the director's cut and try not to fall asleep (though it is a must-see-once for fans). The movie fittingly killed off Ripley, hinting that the whole Alien show was now over. Only really good Alien thing to come after was the AvP (2000) pc game (plus some comics I guess). That's it. There's really no more potential left in the franchise, except for crazed bullshit fanfic-quality backstory courtesy of Ridley Scott. Thanks for the gorgeous cutscene Herr Scott, but you're pissing in the wind as much as the other post-Alien3 dickholes. Now the Predator franchise is just a baffling example of wasted potential. The concept is even more brilliant than the Alien one, as it doesn't rely on horror, instead opening up a world of high-quality, blood-drenched action potential. But it fizzled, for no good reason.
