This actually adds a fair amount of strategy to the proceedings. I've created a couple bezerkers who have all their points put into the tier 1 attack and passives, so I can use them as "Fire and forget" super cheap towers that I never upgrade. I use them for absorbing punishment from attacking creeps or finishing off stragglers. If they go down, no biggie, they're super cheap and can be easily re-summoned. Meanwhile, the resources I save can all be dumped into upgrading my main berzerk so he can start hacking and slashing like a cuisinart. Like Immortal Defense, ranged attacks are treated as moving objects, so with proper placement, you can squeeze more damage out of your ranged towers beyond their range limit. This game also gives you unheard of AI control over your hero towers, even the ability to order them not to waste an slow-to-charge high-tier attack on a weakened enemy that could easily be finished off with a lower tier one, plus the ability to save the hero's AI profile for use in later battles. You also have the ability to directly zap creeps with super spells, and while that does not produce resources from a 100% health creep, if your towers manged to shave off hitpoints, then you will receive a percentage of that creeps total resource reward based on the percent of health taken off by towers.
