There's another good quote from that article

Designer Neville Page has said if there were Klingons, he would have to explore a rationale for their appearance such as their long hair, and give their species a varied appearance, perhaps with different races.
I'm gonna let slide the thing about different races. I'm guessing that somewhere among the thousands of Trek TV shows/books/comics/collectible card games there is an explanation for the Klingons' long hair. The fact it's not mentioned in the Memory Alpha article is proof enough for me that even hardcore fans don't give a shit. In the incredible sci-fi land of boundless imagination inhabited by designer Neville Page, an anthropologist discovers an unknown tribe in the Amazon and their first question is "Why the long hair?" As someone who has never seen a complete season of any Trek series and who checked out completely after DS9, I'd rather look at Holodeck schematics than watch a movie that thinks Klingon hairstyling is a good use of screentime. Good to know I'm just another obscurantist geek and not the target audience for these movies.
