Peter Molyneux's The Movies

It only wants you to think it's a ponderous art film
It isn't. Swirling star maps and a half assed aliens as creators plot does not make you 2001. 2001 stuck with that one very tight theme. It began with a higher power granting primitives intelligence, which they immediately (and continue to) use to kill. It segues into humanity seeking that power out, only to have a "primitive" creation of their own start to kill. It ends with a confusing montage and light show due to the monolith's intelligence being so beyond our understanding that those images were the best it could do to communicate. So then we have Prometheus, which tries to do the Alien tie ins at the same time that it does 2001. These two themes have nothing to do with each other, so they try to splice them into relevance by tying in the xenos being engineered just like humans. That clumsy bit out of the way, they try to set David (get it?! huh?) up to be Hal through some more clumsy scenes. There's no progression to his madness, he's a self-aware resentful slave from the start. In the end, there is absolutely no point to any of his actions. The end outcome would have virtually been the same if he had never infected hipster scientist who wouldn't have impregnated Dragon Tattoo who wouldn't have aborted the squid who wouldn't have gestated albino to give birth to the first xeno so then why was there metal carvings of a xeno queen on the walls of a research facility? It's just meaningless Lost mystery bullshit masquerading as a deep open ended story.
