But in fact, Kaplan DOES require that every "teacher" got a 90% or higher score on the particular exam they're teaching. They also make you write and deliver your own 5-minute lesson on a miscellaneous skill to a the management staff. So their hiring process specifically filters for intelligent, creative applicants with teaching skills. Then they put you on a retard-proof lesson plan with zero thought, zero room for creativity, and zero discretion. It's maddening! WHY NOT hire deltas to do what is clearly designed to be a delta job instead of insisting on overqualified alphas who are going to be miserable doing it? It reminds me of a conversation I had with a trainer of seeing eye dogs who said you don't want the dogs to be TOO smart. A really smart dog who learns all the tricks early may become easily distracted because they get bored, or worse, try to out-think the person they're guiding. A slow dog who takes a while to learn the job may be perfectly content once they've mastered the skills to do their basic tasks properly again and again day in and day out. The E-Myth was upsetting to me because it very effectively takes you down the primrose path, focusing on details up close in a logical fashion and really gets you nodding along. Only in the end when I'd finished the book and examined all the pieces together as a whole did I realize the author was leading me straight into my nightmare job. I guess artificial flavors made in a factory off the jersey turnpike aren't the only way to make McDonald's palatable.[/quote]
