Re: I wish she wouldn't

her stuff was just kind of tedious. it was cool to see someone play those for a minute but when you spend any real time with them the design is as lazy as the jokes
I always got the sense that her stuff was successful because there wasn't a lot of competition, and because it appealed to that same emotion that Mass Effect currently appeals to. King's Quest was supposed to make us feel proud to own a PCjr, so I gave it waaay more chances than I would any other game. I clearly remember thinking, when I would hop on BBS years later and get puzzle solutions, that "I would have never thought of that" or "I would have never thought to click there." It turned me off to adventure games as a whole. (I dropped in money for Schafer because he seems like a chill guy.) I think there is a tendency to go for the interesting transcript in adventure games. Something that looks like it would have been insightful after the fact. We don't live in a world where people are going to give your kr-raaazy puzzle solution more than a few minutes to work through any more, though. I think Lowe was just being respectful toward his colleagues. There isn't a shred of evidence to think that Williams has looked at anyone's stuff other than her own in order to see what other advances in the field have been made. ICJ
