Oom Shnibbles Game Dev Diary Part the First.
Ever since I was a pederasts wet dream (No, really, I was a gorgeous little kid.) I've been dreaming of writing a game. So, now twenty years on and many, many failed attempts later I'm going to try again. The only difference this time is that I am going to expose my ineptitude and mathematical illiteracy to the wide world. Also, I have a demanding wife and young kid and a lack of perserverence so this could take a while. So, with nothing but a copy of Visual Studio 2010, XNA 4.0 and the entirity of the internet to steal from I shall embark on this futile quest and the denizens of Caltrops shall bare witness to my wailing, gnashing of teeth and object references not being set to instances of objects. This whole exercise could either result in a damp squib, an epic rage quit or a game, Either way we'll see what happens when a shlub like me decides to write a game. The idea is to write a game that is similar to the old classic Solar Winds game developed by Apogee way back in the mists of my childhood. Being a long weekend around here I'd like to have at least the main character's spaceship rotating and flying around, the infrastructure in place to serialise the world, the weapons firing and the ability to render planets and suns as well as per pixel collision detection. Here goes.
