But since you condescended to give us your opinion, I'll tell you. First, I have no idea what you're talking about re: WWI being immune to criticism. The prevailing opinion is that it was a pointless disaster, but more common even than that is just not giving a shit about it. In the US anyway, nobody cares. WWII is above criticism here for sure though. We don't have a WWI memorial, and as far as I know the only WWI-dedicated museum in the entire country is in Kansas City. If you'd just ASKED ME what my first thought of WWI was, I could have told you: it's the earie, yellowing, black-and-white, totally silent film of guys rushing out of a trench (a trench in a moonscape btw), only to have half of them slide back in, dead. I've always had the impression that this war took place on another planet.[/quote]
