The developers of Singularity are keeping crates alive.
They give you this gauntlet called the Time Manipulation Device (or "T-M-D" for short). It has the power not only to age objects instantly, but also to revert old objects to new and pristine condition. The catch is, it only works on objects infused with the rare Element Ninety-Nine (or "E-99"). What sort of objects have been infused? Crates and barrels, of course. Nothing but crates and barrels. The best puzzle in the game - and you can tell it's the best one, because they make you do it over and over again - involves aging a crate until it's nothing but a pile of debris, wedging that pile of debris under a stuck garage door, then de-aging it back into a full-sized crate, thereby jacking open the door. You can tell the scientists who invented this thing must have been mad, because they spent their whole lives constructing a fucking Back to the Future glove to perform the same function as the scissor jack in the trunk of your car. Also I guess because they chose to live and work in dimly-lit sewers and turn all the local people into mutant zombies to patrol their sewers. <img src="http://i.imgur.com/elQEQ.jpg"> At least none of the boss fights have reversed my controls (yet), so it's still one up on Dead Space.
