Rather, he figured it was easier to propagandize for his dictatorship through an authoritarian single church with single supreme infallible God instead of a mess of temples devoted to individual gods in the bickering trailer park of the Olympian pantheon. Christianity was popular at the time, so hey, if Paris would later be worth a Mass. Put a spin on the crucifixion (an act of Caesar's unquestionable Roman authority) and shift the blame onto the chosen people. Public Relations genius.
