Re: Pirate Shortwave Broadcasting

My question is: are there audio filters to create the sort of effects you hear in these transmissions? Specifically crackling, warping, random volume fluctuations and static
Jonsey, is this a serious question or were you fucking with us?

I'm serious. Deadly serious!
We're talking about analog radio equipment built back in the 1960s and 1970s, most of which is designed for use in a dry building or transmitter installation on land, not intended to operate as marine transmitters on a boat. I'm surprised it worked as well as it did for the conditions it was used under.
This part I don't understand. Who was talking about a boat?
Now, if I'm misunderstanding you and you want to simulate these in a recording made now on digital equipment, check out the open source audio editor Audacity and see if it has them.
It does not! By default, anyway. But look, that's besides the point. Here's what I wanted to do, Commander: I wanted to make a game in the future that had working radio stations. So you turn one on, and it streams Creative Commons-licensed pirate radio broadcasts. I wanted to see if there were audio filters to make custom ones, though. But that's not important. What is important is THIS question: did you ever do anything with ham radio back in the day? the dark and gritty...Ice Cream Jonsey!
