Re: The Great Happiness Space: Tale of an Osaka Love Thief

I already mentioned this to Jerry, but I recommend this documentary to everyone here, especially fans of shows like "Intervention," because ultimately this isn't a movie about the ins and out of Host Clubs, but about addiction and the strange forms it can take. As a Video Game addict, myself, budgeting a 4-digit figure to hand-build a new tower to play games I already own at higher resolutions with all the visual candy enabled, this film made me stop and re-evaluate. Good flick!
I've said this before, but I wasn't at all uncomfortable watching this movie. I felt completely in tune with it. I felt like - that was my life, as a woman and as a girlfriend and a friend and a lot of other things. Except I didn't get paid for what I did. I was glad to see the recognition that it was fantasy-for-a-purpose. "it's fake" is a pejorative; it seems to imply there's something wrong with the customers for wanting to be gratified. I would recommend the j-drama Yaoh for the romanticized perspective of How It Could Be (also b/c it is very cute.) The corresponding hostess j-drama is Jotei. I am a huge fan of male hosts. I feel men whoring themselves for women's money is a demonstration of the real difference between the sexes.
