Forum Overview :: Gamerasutra :: Yeah, sounds plausible.
I'm probably even more out of touch than you are (big surprise?). Here's a list of all the new games I bought last year: Bayonetta. And I only bought that because it was $20 and said "SEGA" on it :(
When the last Harry Potter or Wheel of Time book came out, people rushed to read it right away, not just because they liked the books, but because they wanted to be part of the discussion of the books with people that they knew. They didn't want to be the last person in their peer group not to know the end. I suspect that Dragon Age 2 will also be a huge success for the same reason. People are going to be talking about the game and if you consider yourself a Dragon Age fan you're going to feel like a castout if you aren't keeping up.
Normally I don't think of peer pressure as something to worry about, because it's almost always presented as pressure to drink beers, smoke drugs, or join a street gang like The Warriors - basically all stuff you should be doing anyway if you have the opportunity. But what if instead of thrill-seeking and pre-marital sex, your fairweather friends were all into godawful BioWare games? It's a scary thought! By the way, here's a screenshot of Dragon Age II. Looks like they're going to deliver on pretty much everything they promised in that trailer Jsoh posted.
