Re: So what?

This other program does all of the work. And then I have internet. Again. Also, other than the veronica theory, I am pretty sure it was adaware, because others are reporting the same problem. Granted, it was caused by the initial spyware (THANK YOU ROOMMATE AND YOUR FUCKING ONLINE POKER GAMES), but still, you'd think paying 15$ for a piece of software would mean they'd cover for things like totally shitting on your internet connection.
I said it was an alternate method of fixing it. Both fixes are approximately equally easy to implement from my perspective. Also, blaming Ad-Aware for winsock corruption because it removed spyware that had modified it . . . it's a little silly. The problem originates when Ad-Aware removes the thing in a way that it doesn't like. It's not Ad-Aware's fault that spyware is designed to punish you for trying to remove it. Or that spyware is generally badly written shit.
Well, yeah. That's why I clarified between direct causality (adaware) and original source of the problem (spyware). I was just explaining to you why I had liked the method I used to fix it (totally idiot proof), but nevertheless appreciating your more nuts and bolts approach.
What happened to the bill in Congress to make this shit illegal, anyway? Last I heard it had passed the house by something like 4934595 votes to 1. That was about a year ago. :(
Well, until spyware finds a creative way to infringe Disney's copyrights or piss off the RIAA I seriously doubt we'll get anything more than symbolic gestures. Me, I think we should encourage DOD personnel and whatnot to use Gator so it becomes an obvious national security hazard. I think there's plenty of space in Guantanamo for these guys too.
