it's kind of surprising how well this game holds up to today's standards. there's ragdoll physics combined with the gears of war style corpse kicking, as well as exploding enemy jetpacks which causes dead enemies to flail around wildly, making ragdoll seem new and funny all over again. the use of real time tacticool operator tactics stays strong through the rest of the game, and they did a great job on all the other little details. HOWEVER it's clear that the game could have used some extra improvements found in todays modern games, like a better and more fleshed out set of tutorial missions. it's better in that respect than mass effect but only a little bit. there was also a few points in the game where I stopped finding ammo, which is pretty confusing when you're literally kicking useless ammo aside most of the game. the game also has the balls to be unapologetically difficult. I got killed a few million times against some of their armies of fuckin super battle droid dispensers, and it's honestly very frustrating, even if I don't need to reload a save, to be incapped for the 10th time, demand my squad recall and revive me in the line of fire and get back up while they take a million weak little pot shots at the nearly invincible tanks. the squad mates do a very good job of following orders, cracking terminals and covering a field of fire from a sniping/heavy weapon position, but it would have been really cool to make them useful in a standard firefight as well. in a few more years this game will seem extremely ancient.
