Claire asked me what was wrong and I told her the next morning. She stewed on it all day and when I came back from work, she flipped out. She started screaming. After about 45 minutes of this, my flatmate and his girlfriend, who could hear all this from the lounge, left because they were uncomfortable. After I told her they'd gone, she started beating me. She's small and weak so it didn't hurt and I took it in the hope it would calm her down. When she saw that attacking me wasn't having an effect, she looked around for things to smash. At first, she threw pillows around like an idiot, but then she smashed a glass against the wall. It was full of water and the water got on an electrical socket and freaked me out. I put her on the centre of the bed where she couldn't smash anything without me stopping her first, so instead of smashing things, she started smashing her elbows against the headboard to hurt herself. When I restrained her, she started to bite my arms. I didn't take them away. I felt that if she drew blood, she'd feel guilty later. She didn't draw blood, though. Her bites just left bruises. She wouldn't let me talk during all of this. She said if I talked, she'd jump out the window. After about 3 hours, she sat motionless on the side of the bed. I asked if she was calm. She said she wasn't calm, just tired. To calm her down, I told her I didn't care if she bit right through me before because I was so ashamed of myself and thought I was going to ruin my life over superficial shit*. She said she couldn't move her fingers and thought she'd sprained her wrist. She held me with one arm. She didn't want to go to hospital. We couldn't lie to my flatmates that she'd sprained it playing squash because htey'd heard us fighting. She couldn't hide it because we were going go-karting together the next day. I made her tell them she hurt it attacking me and kinda make a joke of it. After about 30 minutes of holding each other, we went shopping, ate some food, and the next night, she flew home to Taiwan. A few days later, she told me she was pregnant. *We were eating at a restaurant when 3 of "the lads" arrived. Ages ago, I'd boasted to one that a Filipino I was seeing was much better than the Filipino he was seeing. I never got to see his, and he never got to see mine, but here he was looking at the Taiwanese girl and I was very embarrassed that she didn't look pretty "enough". I was also embarrassed that I was embarrassed. It was a powerful snowballing of embarrassment that is the closest I've ever come to a panic attack. She could see I was having problems and when she asked me to explain myself later, I told her that I was embarrassed by the way she looked, which was the truth but also such a cruel thing to say, and she cried and we argued for hours. I remember during that argument, she stared at me and said, "CAN YOU TAKE THIS FACE?!" and she was dressed down for bed, and her eyes were red from crying and she looked so awful that I immediately said, "Yes! Of course Claire!" and I sounded so pathetic and fake and she told me to shut up. We had many big fights while she was here. The first came on the second night. The sound of her heels on the marble floor of our lobby reminded me of prostitutes and made me nervous and I told her so. We spent the rest of the night fighting over whether I compare her to prostitutes. The fight climaxed in our parking lot. I wanted her to drive us to the mall so she'd be confident driving there by herself the next day. I wanted to conclude the argument before she started driving because she goes a bit nutty when she's furious. She backed the car out just a bit but I could see she was still furious so I stopped her and asked if she was OK to drive. She yelled out "NO!!!!" and jumped out of the car. She'd backed out just enough that my passenger side door was blocked by a pillar and her driver's side chair was pulled so far forward (because she's short) that I had to fumble around getting it back before I could climb over it, turn off the car, and get out. She had about a 30 second head start on me. You have all these apartment blocks sprouting out of the desert and for every apartment block there's another two under construction - all surrounded by sand. Often there aren't even roads in place by the time the blocks are finished. I'd seen her run off in the direction of two construction sites. I couldn't let her go off by herself because who knows what would happen if an Indian or Arab caught a hysterical Asian in an empty building site at night, but at the same time, I didn't want to give her the attention she craved for running off like a child. I decided to stalk her at a distance. She'd stopped part way through one construction site. I was hiding in the shadows of another. The only hilarious part of all this was an Indian at the site where I was hiding. He was watching me skulk from shadow to shadow while stalking a hysterical Asian. I couldn't have looked any more like a rapist but like the heartless robot that all Indians are, he barely seemed interested. (It takes most Westerners about 6 months of living with Indians before they start to hate them. It took one guy a year and a half! Don't waste time; hate them now.)[/quote]
