Re: You're gay.

Grinding is totally optional as far as I can tell. What were you grinding for? The Memory Alpha stuff?
The memory alpha stuff was the definition of a broken reward system. No, I mean regular old grinding to go from level to level. All of the efficient stuff (like exploration missions) has incredibly painful shit mixed in, like ground missions. And they even manage to fuck up the space combat, by attaching it to stupid collection objectives. It was mostly out of curiosity that I cared to level, because I wanted to see what the higher level ships equipped and how it worked out. But the more abilities I incrementally raised across a vast spectrum of indistinguishable bullshit, the less I cared. I guess I need more consistent use of the hook in the game (space combat, in case you've forgotten) and a Space Rangers 2 approach to everything else (make it optional). It felt like most things plot and story were arbitrarily stapled on to the same combat scenarios, with very few taking creative directions (and some of those end disastrously, like the crystal fucking entity). PvP was ridiculous, although it started off promising, so I just saw nowhere to go. Plus a rig that allows you to remain in space indefinitely. I don't want to wander around non-combat areas, possibly even more than I don't want to walk around combat areas. So I guess the main thing is that I want a light space game, or something like those classic ASCII space games (Privateer, Masters of whatever) that is updated beyond the Dwarf Fortress style interface. Some people interactions were positive, most was a waste of time.
Guess what, they added a timer so you can't keep doing exploration missions over and over. You have to wait 30 minutes before you can explore the same area again. :( The ground third-person shooter part of the game is designed to be half the game, and fun. I find it to be only okay. Moderately annoying, and moderately repetitive. (The environments look very nice though.) It's certainly not as fun as the space combat. If you hate it, then yeah, that'll definitely kill the game for you. The good news is they did fix a whole mess of bugs, and the game is playable again.
