How did I miss SSDs? I just did an upgrade, didn't even think about hard drives
because I have 2 500GB drives that aren't full. Who needs more than a TB on their home computer, other than the people that torrent as a lifestyle? BUT! I'm a sucker for making shit run faster and not having to deal with load times. What would Caltrops recommend for a hard drive configuration involving SSDs? Right now, I have my OS and most of my applications on one drive, and the second drive is used for data storage and Steam. This has worked really well, since after 1 drive replacement, and going from XP to Vista to Win7 RC to Win7, I haven't had to touch anything on the second drive. 95% of the programs installed on it will still run, and anything that pisses and moans about the registry got deleted because it was mostly likely old and I wasn't using it anyways. With this in mind and since SSDs are apparently crazy fucking expensive, I was figuring maybe it would be best to get a smaller drive to replace the OS drive. However, my computer can have an uptime of months, so how much would having a faster boot drive really affect anything? And most of the essential services would already be loaded into memory, right? So then would it make sense to keep a shitty old mechanical drive (might as well have a miniature steam engine running it, PSH) for the OS side, and a bigger drive for everything else? If that's the case, I'll have to wait a long time for prices to come down, because I'd need minimum 200GB and $700 for a fucking hard drive is insane, even if the speed gains would be life-changing. CHANGING THE SUBJECT, let's talk about cases. Are there any good cases that are extraordinarily quiet and don't involve $3,000 and heat pipes? And don't have windows and spinners and fluorescent lighting? I bought one several years ago that was highly recommended, and it's still pretty loud. Maybe I have too many case fans? I have like 4. One in the front, 2 in the back, and one of those retarded side ones, but I get really worried about overheating because of having my computer shutdown years and years ago because of it so I had to take the side panel off. What does Caltrops do regarding case ventilation? Am I overkilling on fans? WWCD?
