Played the demo for Supreme Commander 2, it isn't bad
It's safe to say that the majority of their development time went into making the engine run as smoothly as possible. It shows, but I don't know if I like the new look or not. All the units look like Supreme Commander: LEGO Edition. The maps play a lot smaller, with more choke points. The second campaign mission I played reminded me a lot of a Demigod map, so it looks like Chris Taylor's taking some of his inspiration from what he learned in it. The 3-tier tech tree is gone, instead there's a third resource: research points that can boost the damage/health of your units and unlock new units for going further up the branched tree. As far as I know there's no cap to research points so it's conceivable to steamroll your opponent with fully tricked out units. It looks like they consolidated and simplified the unit tree so you're not buried in 20 different types of units. The campaign voice-acting and writing are really abysmal, like as in I wondered if I was playing an alpha, not a polished demo with two weeks before release. Still, the pace seems reasonable and I wasn't getting buried in swarms of enemies every time I triggered a script for completing a task.
