Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Genius Watch
There's little to add, but Miyamoto is clearly a guy who "makes" games. He doesn't play them.
Miyamoto: With platform games, only playing the difficult parts can really take it out of you. It feels good to play parts that you can breeze through as well.
Worst thing anyone in gaming has ever sa-
Iwata: Yes, you're right about that.
Miyamoto can say anything, and this goddamn twat would agree with it. "It would feel good to have second and third generation Japanese-Americans thrown into internment camps. Once you've done it a few times, you can breeze right through."
Miyamoto: That was doubtless something the arcade was happy about, as players would keep pumping in 100 yen pieces. But what it actually ended up doing is ensuring that the player would always be playing at the very limit of their abilities. I don't think it feels good to play like that.
Dumbass, games would constantly drain your health to get you to put more coins in, your ability to extend playtime was marginal or non-existent. I don't think the guy playing red wizard had a sudden breakthrough when he got to level 20, what happened was that a timer (cleverly called "heath," because fuck your timer) expired and he threw more coins in to get that far. They weren't "playing at the very limit of their abilities." I don't think he has any idea what arcade games were like after Donkey Kong Jr. No big deal, certainly the whip-smart gaming press will be on the job here and call him on his shit.
Iwata: You're right.
Excellent. What a relief to know you'll always have a job waiting for you in the US. He'll be told what he ought to be giving the latest Eidos release in no time. ICJ
