Character/Class impressions
Characters: Alistair - A great shield-bearing tank-guy if you didn't already send your main character down that path. Sten - Two-handed weapon skills suck. Sten is mostly about two-handed weapons. Sten sucks. Morrigan - The shapeshifting abilities I'm not too crazy about, but otherwise she's got really good starting spells, and if you're not into that you can change her into pretty much whatever you want. She's always in my party. Leliana - A Rogue with most of her talents already thrown into single-weapon backstabbing. I thought she was ok until I got Zevran, then I found out she's terrible. Has anyone found use for the Pickpocketing skill? It pisses me off she starts with 2-3 talent points in that and jack shit in unlocking things. I've had to walk past like 80% of treasure chests. Zevran - Hooollyyyy Shit I love this guy. Dual weapons is easily the best way to go in the game. Too bad his lockpicking skills start out so bad. =( Classes - Mage: Play this on easy mode with a bunch of Primal spells for a no-stress approach to combat. If you get mobbed, just drop a fireball at your feet and watch those 10 guys about to gangfuck you go flying! - Shapeshifter: It's ok. It's main selling point is that it doesn't require mana to do, so sort of like being a Bear-Form Druid on WOW you're not entirely useless once your manapool is gone. - Spirit Healer: I've never really needed more than a single point in Creation for the Healing spell so far. - Blood Mage: Haven't tried this Warrior: Specializing in two handed weapons is asking for a reroll. Dual-wielding specialization is probably the best way to go unless you're strictly aiming your character to be a meatshield, and Alistair has that covered pretty well, and unless you're a complete asshole you always get him in your party. There's also an archery tree but why the fuck would you want to do that? - Templar: Purges debuffs and shit for the party. - Berserker: Haven't tried this but I imagine combining it with dual-wielding feats would also qualify as easy mode. Rogue: I honestly haven't done much with this but I have trouble really seeing the Archery specialization working out well. Best class combo would be a Rogue - Assassin/Duelist with lots of dual-weapon feats.
